Basis for Accreditation Decision:2011 Initial AccreditationStandard #1 - The entire Blue Net system which includes Virtual Community and Balanced Scorecard provides ADEN with a robust information system to help leadership, faculty and staff make quicker, better informed decisions and provides immediate feedback to its stakeholders in order to accomplish its goals and mission. Standard #1 - Information gleaned by the personnel that are involved in the Competitive Institute has the potential for affecting the financial well being of businesses and the business environment in each country in which ADEN is located in Latin America. Standard #2 - Program Directors meet several times a year and the Board of Directors has a yearly week long meeting to assess the activities and accomplishments of the previous year. The process informs and elicits information from all stakeholders and decisions and changes are made for the next year or years. Criterion 4.2 - Faculty and program directors see formative results (essay responses, group work, multiple-choice tests in Virtual Community and other learning results in Blue Net) immediately. If a central concept is not understood, students may be directed to the source of information or to a make-up class so that knowledge is acquired in time for students to be successful on subsequent simulations and or modules. Criterion 5.1 - ADEN has an orientation process for the development of the faculty that has three levels: Initial training for qualification, Optimization and Improvement, and Professional Growth. These processes help people with professional business expertise to become quality teachers.Criterion 5.2 – ADEN develops a uniform module for each course, which gives continuity and consistency to teaching throughout its program. Criterion 6.2 – Logistics and technology services are key educational support processes. Because they are critical to the educational model there is a 24-hour operational service to manage them with different ways for managing risks such as agreements with airlines for priority use, back up technology services, back faculty and communications facilities.#1 - An ethical “Code of Conduct” had not been developed prior to the self-study year (2009). A draft document has been developed after the self study but has not yet been deployed (Early 2011). The draft of the proposed document does not yet contain such things as: language regarding appropriate/inappropriate sexual conduct between employees and other stakeholders, signoff method acknowledging having received the “Code of Conduct” document, and statements about plagiarism in its many forms.#3 - Although major non-student stakeholders have been identified (pgs 23 &24, Overview), satisfaction measures have not been collected and analyzed for all identified groups. Collecting satisfaction results for all groups may allow ADEN to better serve all stakeholders.Criterion 4.2 – Although grade averages have been trended for three years, with the limitations that grades present, the learning objectives identified in Appendix 4, page 1, may be measured, segmented, and trended in order to determine actual student learning.Criterion 4.3 - Although comparisons of results among the 13 ADEN sites throughout Latin America are a start, ADEN could benefit by comparing learning outcomes with similar external universities in order to give true comparisons with all Latin Americans with a higher business education. These comparisons would allow ADEN to determine the knowledge acquired by its students compared with other Latin Americans competing for similar jobs. Criterion 5.1 – A completely developed human resource plan is essential in order to hire, develop, and manage appropriate personnel to accomplish the mission of the school and programs. The Human Resource Plan should include administrators, faculty, and staff. Criterion 5.2 – Figures 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 5.6 were incomplete, inaccurate or not developed. Preparing complete and accurate Figures would allow ADEN to manage its faculty resources and more effectively meet its human resource needs.Criterion 6.1 – Not all CPC areas receive minimum coverage. Legal Environment of Business, Global Dimension of Business and Quantitative Techniques/Statistics are inadequate. Criterion 6.2 – Library support services are not available for MBA students, inadequate library facilities are available for extension programs and placement services are nonexistent.Criterion 6.3 – Since only 11% or fewer students have graduated in the last three years (page 29 in the Self Study), ADEN may benefit by conducting a root-cause analysis to identify why this is occurring.
