It mostly addresses past activity and refers to the institution's general hiring process. It is also unclear what the status of faculty leadership is at these sites. There is an opportunity for the business unit to develop and implement a plan for staffing these sites with at least one full-time faculty member and appropriate leadership. Categories: Results Verified: This OFI was verified on site.Criterion 5.5 While the business unit has attempted to manage teaching overloads, it is evident that two of full-time faculty members in the business unit taught significant overloads and two others taught one overload course. ACBSP standards and criteria indicate that overload teachings should be used under emergency circumstances, thus, the business unit has an opportunity to explore ways to reduce the amount of overloads. In addition, while Alvernia holds itself out as a teaching institution, the business unit's faculty have several other essential functions that must be fulfilled, including advising and scholarly and professional activities. Heavy advising loads exist for each faculty member. An opportunity exists to either create a policy that reasonably limits the number of overloads taught by faculty or a strategy to increase the number of full time faculty members. It is importantly noted that adjunct faculty generated 65% of the credits in the business courses during the self-study year. This is in stark contrast to the university's goal of having only 25% of credits generated by adjuncts. This fact may be masking the need for additional full-time business faculty in order to appropriately grow the business unit.
