Basis for the accreditation decision.Leadership is definitely considered to be a strength at Aiken Technical College (ATC). President Winsor’s support and Dr. Frock’s through the Education and Training Office’s support of the Business Unit’s growth will ensure the department will continuously learn and improve and address its responsibilities and community involvement.A major strength of the business unit is the strong connection between faculty and students. It is apparent by observing faculty and student interactions that faculty strive to do all they can to help students to succeed. The support services at the College are extensive and greatly enhance the efforts of the faculty to provide high quality experiences for students. A highlight of the College is the impressive ATC Testing Center and the ATC Advising Center. The Testing Center is open Monday through Saturday and is very accommodating to students. Students can either make an appointment or walk in to complete the ACT, CLEP, and other tests that help determine a student’s initial placement into courses and programs. All new students are required to complete placement testing before enrolling in a course. The ATC Advising Center staffs are very dedicated to student success. They meet extensively with students enrolled in the First Year Experience program, paying attention to details that might hinder a student’s success, and adding that high touch that is so important for student retention. It is very evident they care for the students the students and enjoy what they are doing. Although plans are in place to begin using the Peregrine Academic Services, the business unit does not have a comparative analysis of its student learning outcomes. The follow-thru with the implementation of the program will assure them of adequate benchmarking of their programs.Faculties have an opportunity to express issues of concern through the Faculty Assembly. Better attendance at the Faculty Assembly could assure the administration is kept current of the culture and concerns of the faculty.
