ACBSP Regions Merit Scholarship

The ACBSP Regions Merit Scholarship is given on behalf of those ACBSP Regions that wish to participate. Each participating ACBSP Region designates and funds the amount of the scholarship. A student from that Region that did not win the Andrew V. Stevenson Scholarship is then chosen. The eligibility and selection criteria is the same as the Andrew V. Stevenson Scholarship.

Andrew V. Stevenson served as the Associate Director of Accreditation of ACBSP and worked closely with associate degree schools until his death. He was instrumental in creating Kappa Beta Delta, an honor society for associate degree business programs which have ACBSP accreditation. 

Applicants will be judged by a committee of faculty advisors based on an applicant's academic achievement, professional achievements and goals, and involvement in the local community. The scholarship is competitive. In 2015, a record 52 applicants applied. Kappa Beta Delta expects even more students to apply this year.

School of Business at Luna Community announces the formation of a local chapter of the Kappa Beta Delta International Honor Society. The Alpha Beta Delta Chapter, formally installed November 20, 2014, will be inducting its first charter members May 1, 2015. Kappa Beta Delta is for students who are enrolled in institutions accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Kappa Beta Delta was established to encourage and recognize scholarship and accomplishment in the pursuit and completion of studies in business, management and administration which culminates in the conferral of the associate degree.

Kappa Beta Delta provides an opportunity for the faculty to confer on students at Luna Community, recognition for their outstanding academic achievements in the business school/program. Students invited to membership must meet or exceed the following criteria:  

• The student must declare a major in business 
• The student must rank in the upper 20% of their class
• The student must have completed a minimum of 50 credit hours, of which a minimum of 20 credits are in business
• The student must have a cumulative grade of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.

The School of Business at Luna Community College congratulates the (5) students who have earned invitations to membership in 2015.

Honorary inductee R. Louie Gonzalez, President of the Foundations of East Chicago De La Garza campus provided the keynote addressing details of his personal story and journey to educational success. Mr. Gonzalez has encouraged students, many of whom are the first in their family to attend college and come to Ivy Tech. He has put his dedication to our community into action by developing programs and services that extend beyond the academic needs of students and focused on their success in careers and life beyond college. He encouraged attendees and inductees to share their stories and to continue focusing on educational success.

Kappa Beta Delta (Alpha Gamma Chapter) was established in 2001 and has more than 850 lifetime members. This Honor Society was established to encourage scholarships and recognize accomplishments among those students enrolled in the School of Business program and who are pursuing an Associate Degree in an Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) two year college. The organization encourages and promotes personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind.

MCC’s Kappa Beta Delta chapter held its annual induction ceremony Dec. 12, welcoming 20 new members to the international honor society for students pursuing associate degrees in business management, marketing and administration. To be eligible for membership, students must have at least 24 credit hours and a 3.5 GPA.

Honorary inductee Nancy Livingston, director of family development services at Eastern Nebraska Community Action Partnership, gave the keynote address, detailing her involvement in Kappa Beta Delta’s recent service-learning leadership project. Through a partnership with ENCAP, students developed a market analysis, business plan and budget for a new North Omaha initiative: Mini-Pros, which doubles as an after-school program and screen printing business.

Mini-Pros supports part-time employment for at-risk youth, promoting creativity and entrepreneurial acumen. Kappa Beta Delta participants were able to flex their teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills and launch a business from the ground up. "Students now have a compelling story to tell during a job interview,” said David Wilhelm, faculty advisor and business management instructor. Students also earned course credit and a $1,000 stipend, made possible by an MCC Foundation Inspiring Innovation mini-grant.

Kappa Beta Delta (Phi chapter) was established at MCC in 1999 and has more than 350 lifetime members. The organization encourages and promotes personal and professional improvement and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. 

Donald Carlson, Dean of Business, Education and Professional Programs welcomed twenty-two new members Skyline College Alpha Beta Chi Chapter of Kappa Beta Delta Honor Society on November 6. Kappa Beta Delta is the Associate Degree Honor Society for Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Skyline College is the only community college in California to achieve business accreditation status. New initiates include: Flavious Abellana, Thein Aung, Omar Bakir, Kimberly Ann Bryant, MK Bryant, Christopher Chang, Miki Heitzman, Tetiana Kaut, Todd Kirk, RuoBing Lei, Jia Chuan Lu, Ben Mayer, Maura O’Flynn, Melanie Parazo, Wilfredo Pasamba, Edwin Qiu, Alexander Reyes, Julie Sabangan, Marissa Wong, Hoi Ying Wong, Nara Xavier da Costa, and Naoko Yumoto. Membership is open to all Business majors who have completed a minimum of 15 units completed at Skyline College, completed 3 courses in the major, and maintained a minimum of 3.4 GPA.

The Ivy Tech Northwest Region Alpha Gamma Chapter was charted in 2001. Including the 33 new members who were inducted at a ceremony on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at the Valparaiso campus, we have inducted and honored 785 people into the Chapter.

Within the School of Business Programs, students have the opportunity to excel in their academics and receive recognition through the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP) International Honor Society, KAPPA BETA DELTA.

Established in 1997, Kappa Beta Delta (KBD) gives students and alumni a lifetime, international recognition for outstanding academic achievement. KBD encourages and promotes personal and professional improvement, and a life distinguished by honorable service to humankind.
