ACBSP Offers Leadership Institute

for Business Deans and Program Chairs

Overland Park, KS, USA (March 22, 2012) –The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP),, will launch a new level of educational programming with the introduction of the Leadership Institute June 14-15, immediately prior to the 2012 ACBSP Annual Conference, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore, Md. The Institute topic this year, entitled Setting the Table for Success, is geared toward new and aspiring deans and program chairs.

Gregory O'BrienAnnette CravenGregory O'Brien, Ph.D., president, The Higher Education Group, Inc., a consulting group focused on strategic planning, organizational strategy, accreditation, quality assurance, acquisitions, and joint ventures in higher education; and Annette E. Craven, Ph.D., professor of management and Faculty Senate president, University of the Incarnate Word, and ACBSP immediate past president will conduct the Leadership Institute.


The workshop will cover topics such as:

  • Building a shared vision and support for the dean’s/chair’s core agenda within the faculty and university.
  • Learning how to establish/enhance the school’s profile in the business community to build financial support.
  • Succession planning and preparing for leadership.

Presentations offer techniques for problem analysis and building consensus, support and momentum, with a focus on both external and internal issues. Participants will select and outline problems or projects in advance. A network group will be formed for follow-up after the conclusion of the workshop.


ACBSP’s mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world. ACBSP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a specialized accreditation agency for business education. ACBSP currently has 1,100 member campuses, 157 of which are located outside of the U.S. Of those campuses, 541 have achieved accreditation and more than 415 are in candidacy for accreditation. Individual members on these campuses now exceed 9,500.
