Overland Park, KS (March 27, 2012) – Doug Viehland, executive director of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP),, is among the speakers this week at the First World Summit on Accreditation in New Delhi, India.

Doug ViehlandViehland will give two presentations during the three-day summit. The first is on the topic of "Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Management Education,” which focuses on how the ACBSP process can lead to establishing processes within business schools that encourage business faculty to document the quality of education they currently deliver and follow a path of continuous improvement for their programs. He will also present a session entitled: "Harmonizing the Accreditation Process of Management Education,”which focuses on the innovative techniques used by ACBSP to support member institutions along the path toward accreditation. In both cases the topics explore how the ACBSP accreditation process is a viable option for the schools in India that are seeking international accreditation.

ACBSP is experiencing tremendous growth in India. "In 2008, ACBSP had no members in India. We now have 14 member campuses there. In 2010, we granted accreditation to PSG Institute of Management (PSG College of Technology), in Peelamedu, Coimbatore, and in 2011, Regional College of Management Autonomous, in Bhubaneswar, Orissa achieved accreditation,” said Viehland. In addition, ACBSP has site visits scheduled this spring to four member colleges and universities in India, which are candidates for ACBSP accreditation.

The National Board of Accreditation India, an autonomous body of All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), organized the event. According to NBA Member Secretary Dr. Dinesh K. Paliwal, "The summit is a culmination of various initiatives undertaken by the NBA to create an environment for introducing global quality standards on Indian campuses imparting technical and professional education to help maintain the students’ mobility in the academic and professional paths.”

ACBSP’s mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world. ACBSP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a specialized accreditation agency for business education. ACBSP currently has 1,100 member campuses, 157 of which are located outside of the U.S. Of those campuses, 541 have achieved accreditation and more than 415 are in candidacy for accreditation. Individual members on these campuses now exceed 9,500.
