ACBSP Executive Director Douglas Viehland Presents Session on Accreditation in Latin America at the 2012 CLADEA Annual Assembly

OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (October 22, 2012)Douglas Viehland, Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs, (ACBSP), will present a session on the importance of accreditation in Latin America at the Annual Assembly of the Consejo Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Administración (CLADEA), being held Oct. 21-24 in Lima, Peru. ACBSP will be recognized as a Gold Sponsor of the event.

On October 23, during the 2012 CLADEA Annual Assembly, Viehland and Wilfredo Giraldo, Ph.D., Director, Quality Business Institute, at ACBSP-accredited institution Universidad San Martín de Porres (USMP), will co-present a session titled:"Sharing of Experiences and Results of ACBSP Accreditation.”The presentation will outline ACBSP’s mission and the accreditation process before focusing on USMP’s experience of going through the accreditation process and what obtaining specialized business accreditation has achieved for their University. In August 2012, USMP also served as the host of the Annual Fall Conference of the Latin American Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP Region 9).

"The first Latin American university to achieve ACBSP accreditation was Universidad EAN of Bogota, Colombia in 2008,” said Viehland. "Since that time, six other universities have followed suit, and an additional 10 are now in the process of obtaining accreditation.” Due to rapid expansion in the region, ACBSP is planning to open a third office in Latin America within the next three years. The Council currently has offices in Overland Park, Kansas and Brussels, Belgium. ACBSP is the second largest accrediting body in the world specializing in business programs.

ACBSP’s mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize excellence through the accreditation of business education programs around the world. ACBSP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a specialized accreditation agency for business education. ACBSP currently has 1,134 member campuses, 167 of which are located outside of the U.S. Of those campuses, 572 have achieved accreditation and more than 485 are in candidacy for accreditation. Individual members on these campuses now exceed 10,000.
