ACBSP Joins CHEA International Quality Group as a Charter Member

OVERLAND PARK, KS, USA (February 19, 2013) The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) has joined the CHEA International Quality Group, (CIQG) as a charter member. The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), launched this group in September 2012 as a forum for colleges, universities, accrediting and quality assurance bodies worldwide to address the issues, challenges and opportunities faced in delivering quality higher education.

ACBSP joined the CHEA International Quality Group in December, 2012. The January 2013 issue of Quality International, the newsletter of the CHEA International Quality Group, reports: "To date, 75 institutions and organizations have joined the CIQG in addition to CHEA’s 3,000 member institutions, who become CIQG members as a benefit of their membership in CHEA.” Dr. Craig Swenson, Chancellor of Argosy University, a school in candidacy for ACBSP accreditation, serves on the group’s Advisory Council.

Membership in the Quality Group is open to:

• Higher education institutions in the United States accredited by the U.S. Department of Education- or CHEA-recognized accrediting organizations

• Higher education institutions from other countries in good standing with their national quality assurance bodies

• Higher education accreditation and quality assurance organizations sanctioned by government or other competent authorities

• Higher education associations

• Government agencies

• Businesses and Corporations

• Foundations

"ACBSP joined CHEA's International Quality Group (CIQG) because we are committed to advancing academic quality globally,” said Steve Parscale, ACBSP Director of Accreditation. "It is rewarding to be a part of this important forum and to participate in the first Annual Conference in Washington D.C. in January 2013, where we looked at global resources that can be brought to bear on issues such as defining quality and combating degree and accreditation mills,” he said.

CIQG members benefit from access to members-only content on the CIQG website, which contains an International Directory with contact information about quality assurance bodies, accreditation bodies and Ministries of Education in countries around the world and a variety of information materials related to quality assurance internationally.

ACBSP’s mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world. ACBSP is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a specialized accreditation agency for business education. ACBSP currently has 1,260 member campuses, 177 of which are located outside of the U.S. Of those campuses, 586 have achieved accreditation and more than 592 are in candidacy for accreditation. Individual members on these campuses now exceed 10,000.
