The Maastricht full-time MBA program is the oldest MBA program at MSM. This program is the principal MBA program on which all the other MBA programs are built. The Maastricht full-time MBA program is designed for promising, high-potential managers from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds with an international career perspective. The participants typically have between three to seven years of working experience, an academic degree at bachelor's level or above, sometimes professional qualifications, and a good academic record. The part-time MBA includes the Executive MBA program and the Global Distance Learning Program.MSM has restarted its Executive MBA program in June 2007. This program in its new form is jointly organized with Cologne Business School (Germany). The focus of the program is International Business and is as such entirely based on the full-time MBA curriculum. The program is delivered on a modular basis. The duration of the program is 24 months and consists in total of 7 modules (+ 1 module thesis). Each module is 10 days (from Friday to Sunday next week following). The first day of each module is reserved for examination of the courses taught in the previous module. The modules are taught alternately in Maastricht and Cologne. One module is taught in Shanghai with MSM's outreach partner SMU, Shanghai Maritime University. In 2008, MSM began to offer the MBA curriculum through a Global Distance Learning MBA program to students in the Netherlands and abroad, enabling local working students to participate in the MBA program. The Global Distance Learning MBA program is a part-time modular MBA program which includes distance learning courses and mandatory residential weeks. The program is based on the curriculum of the full-time MBA program in Maastricht. The main difference between the Global Distance program in Maastricht and the Outreach programs is that teaching is based on distance learning methods instead of face-to-face education . The MSM Global Distance Learning program is offered in cooperation with the Open University of the Netherlands (OUNL) . The program is similar to the AMBA accredited Euro-MBA offered by the Open University in a consortium of European Management Schools. MSM has full academic control over the program, including admissions, faculty assignments and the curriculum. The MBA Facility Management Program is a part-time MBA program and takes 36 months to complete. This program differs from the principal MBA program, in the language of instruction (Dutch) and in the curriculum. In each of the modules, a wide range of facility topics are studied and analyzed, from an integrative managerial perspective. The program carefully balances theory and practice from a multidisciplinary perspective, with a compulsory focus on one functional area of business administration . The quality of the program is continually assessed through the school's evaluation tools and surveys. The MBA FM theses are assessed in accordance with the MBA thesis guidelines through an independent thesis evaluation committee. These theses should be innovative and demonstrate the managerial capabilities of the candidate in a facility environment.MBA Outreach ProgramsSince the mid 1990's, MSM has also offered the MBA through various outreach programs, developed based on the curriculum of the full-time MBA program in Maastricht. Most Outreach MBA programs are offered through a part-time format to enable local working students to attend the programs whilst continuing their daily jobs. All MSM outreach programs are offered in cooperation with local partners. In all cases, MSM has full academic control over the outreach programs, including admissions, faculty assignments (MSM faculty teach in all of the outreach locations) and the curriculum. Local partners are important for the marketing of the programs and the provision of local teaching and studying facilities.Master of Science ProgramIn 2007, MSM began offering a Master of Science in Management program, with a specialization in International Business, at its campus in Maastricht. The Master of Science in Management program is taught full-time over 12 months. The program includes a mandatory attachment of one month to one of MSM's partner locations. For the first three intakes Shanghai was chosen for the attachment, as a particularly booming centre of international business. The program originated in the curriculum of the full time MBA program in Maastricht, but has been tailored to fit the needs of the Master of Science participants. The major difference with this program and the Maastricht MBA program is that teaching in the MBA builds on previous work experience of the participants, whereas in the Master of Science program no previous work experience is assumed. The MSM Master of Science in Management program is offered in cooperation with the Open University of the Netherlands (OUNL). The program is similar to that offered by the NVAO (the Dutch Flemish Accreditation Organization) accredited Master of Science in Management program offered by the OUNL. MSM and the OUNL share the academic control over the program, including admissions, faculty assignments and the curriculum.Doctor of Business Administration ProgramsThe mission of the OBA program at MSM is to provide its graduates, who are seeking leadership roles in business or academic organizations, with a more in-depth multidisciplinary approach to, and knowledge of, business administration. Through the development of solid research competencies, they are provided with a life-long advantage in management practice or in the academic field. From the very beginning, MSM's strength has been its international profile as a management school, integrating the expertise gained in research, technical assistance, and consultancy projects and through offering the outreach MBA programs worldwide. Given the international nature of the student body, the Maastricht OBA Program focuses on international business in a global environment from a culturally diverse perspective. The student develops the ability to relate theories to specific business applications in other sub-disciplines in various regional or cultural contexts. MSM's international faculty is well-qualified to facilitate and guide these processes. All faculty members have international experience, and the majority of OBA participants contribute to the body of knowledge of the School with research findings from their own country or region. In order to capitalize on this wealth of teaching experience , research findings and data from the various outreach locations, MSM is developing a global knowledge community supported by the newly implemented electronic discussion forum and the annual Partners' conference.Currently 226 OBA students are actively working on their courses and doctoral dissertations in Maastricht and at five international locations. These locations, however, are not considered Outreach locations as in the case of the MBA programs. It is more cost effective and efficient for us to send lecturers to our partner institutions than to bring the group of students to Maastricht, hence we use their campus. Our partners give information regarding the OBA program to students, and allow us to use their facilities . However, the complete responsibility in terms of academic and administrative processes lies with our department in Maastricht.Basis for the decision/program comments
