As AI capabilities rapidly evolve, the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) embraces the opportunity to lead with foresight, responsibility, and integrity. These living, guiding principles reflect ACBSP's commitment to leveraging AI to advance high-quality, student-focused business education while safeguarding academic integrity, equity, and ethical responsibility. 1. Human-Centric Teaching and LearningAI should enhance, never replace, the essential role of faculty, who remain central to curriculum design, instruction, assessment, student advisement, mentorship, and other core responsibilities. AI can help enhance education, but it is the human qualities of faculty, such as emotional intelligence, ethical judgment, empathy, creativity, original thinking, real-world experience, and meaningful connection, that truly inform meaningful learning experiences. 2. Integrity, Ethics, and Academic HonestyInstitutions are encouraged to implement AI systems and tools in ways that uphold and ensure academic integrity, foster ethical behavior, and reinforce a culture of original thinking and responsible student and faculty conduct. 3. Transparency and DisclosureThe use of AI in the classroom and across the institution must be clearly disclosed by and to students, faculty, and stakeholders. Transparency fosters trust and ensures that all parties understand when and how AI tools are applied in teaching, learning, grading, mentoring, advising, or other educational processes and services. 4. Access and Fairness Across Learning EnvironmentsAI technologies used in business education should be actively evaluated for accessibility and fairness. Institutions must minimize algorithmic bias and ensure equitable access and representation in AI-driven learning environments. 5. Data Privacy and SecurityStudent data, institutional records, and proprietary content must be protected with the highest standards of data privacy and cybersecurity. AI tools must comply with institutional policies and applicable data protection regulations (e.g., FERPA [USA], GDPR [EU], PIPEDA [Canada]). 6. AI Literacy and Competency DevelopmentBusiness programs are encouraged to foster AI literacy among faculty, staff, and students to improve student success outcomes, strengthen academic quality, drive innovation, and build workforce readiness through the thoughtful integration of AI into curricula and professional development. 7. Evaluation and Continuous Quality ImprovementAs institutions consider the adoption of AI tools, systematic evaluation and ongoing review can help ensure these technologies align with ethical practices, institutional goals, student success outcomes, and external standards. When appropriate, documenting outcomes may support continuous improvement and ACBSP accreditation reporting. |
