Basis for the decision/program commentsCriterion 1.1The business unit reviews program performance and provides feedback on program reviews on both an annual and five-year basis to inform needed improvements and meet changing industry needs.Categories: Approach, Deployment, Results, ImprovementsVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Criterion 2.1The business unit has a strong process for creating and tracking (using TaskStream) its strategic plan. The annual program review and annual strategic planning meeting are strengthened and informed by quarterly reviews of strategic plan progress. Categories: ApproachVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Even though the unit uses a lot of adjunct faculty to teach its courses and lead its curriculum, they are significantly involved in the strategic planning process and other administrative positions. Categories: Approach, DeploymentVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Criterion 3.3The business unit has systematic approach in place to periodically review listening and learning methods to keep them current with educational service needs and directions. The Annual Program Review as part of NCU Institutional Assessment Handbook is a best in class process that allows the business unit to assess the methods and make improvements if needed. Categories: Approach, Deployment, ImprovementsVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Criterion 4.2The business unit has identified, collected and analyzed formative, mid-program and summative performance measures data for the MBA and PhD using Bloom’s-aligned rubrics.Categories: Approach, Deployment, Results, ImprovementsVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Criterion 5.6The business unit has numerous methods for tracking and measuring its faculty's performance. This is done systematically and frequently. Categories: Deployment, ImprovementsVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Criterion 6.1.7The business unit has exceeded budgeted retention goals.Categories: Approach, Deployment, ImprovementsVerified: This Strength was verified on site. There is strong evidence that the overall student satisfaction with business faculty members has increased for all programs the past year. In addition, faculty members receive monthly updates of student feedbackCategories: Approach, Results, ImprovementsVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Criterion 6.2.1The business unit has highly detailed Strategic Planning Cycles from 2015 through 2026.Categories: Approach, DeploymentVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Criterion 6.3.5Student & Financial Services Advisors serve in both advising students and assisting students with Financial Aid implications, therefore, they are able to discuss the financial implications of students not logging into the course and/or not submitting assignments. Categories: Approach, ImprovementsVerified: This Strength was verified on site.Opportunities for Improvement (OFI) (8)Criterion 1.1The business unit has an opportunity to implement and analyze 360 degree evaluations for directors and/or the dean, as indicated by Faculty members during the site visit interviews. Categories: Approach, DeploymentVerified: This OFI was verified on site.Criterion 3.7The business unit has an opportunity to implement and analyze students' satisfaction/dissatisfaction in terms of services and programs. For example, during site interview with students and alumni, participants indicated satisfaction concerns related to:Academic advisors' timely responsiveness to students' inquiries. Some of the dissertation chairs have specialties from non-business related disciplines (Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Government, Architecture, and Educational Leadership among others) leading to students' frustrations and requesting substitution of dissertation chairs. Some students reported that they ended up working with more than four different dissertation chairs during the doctoral program.Ability to select and match themselves with the dissertation chair and members instead of being automatically assigned to them.Categories: Approach, Deployment, Results, ImprovementsVerified: This OFI was verified on site.Criterion 4.1While the business unit has assessment plans by degree levels (BBA, MBA, DBA and PhD), there is an opportunity to develop and assess SLOs by programs of specializations (Accounting, Marketing, Finance, etc.). As indicated in Criterion 4.1.a, a plan of study is considered a program when it requires a minimum of 12 credit hours of coursework beyond the CPC and/or is recorded on a student’s transcript (ex. Business Administration: major/concentration/option/specialization in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, etc.)Categories: Approach, Deployment, Results, ImprovementsVerified: This OFI was verified on site.Criterion 4.2While the business unit has identified, collected and analyzed formative, mid-program and summative performance measures data, there is an opportunity to include, collect and analyze SLOs related to the various specializations offered in BBA, MBA, DBA and PhD programs. A well-defined assessment plan of measurable student learning outcomes for each program and specializations could allow the business unit to track competency success rates or opportunities for improvements for each of the defined student learning outcomes by programs/majors.Categories: Approach, Deployment, Results, ImprovementsVerified: This OFI was verified on site.Criterion 4.3In addition to BBA and MBA programs, the The business unit has an opportunity to include comparative information and data for DBA and PhD programs as part of the assessment plans both over time and with respect to benchmarks and intended outcomes.Categories: Approach, Deployment, Results, ImprovementsVerified: This OFI was verified on site.Criterion 5.3One hundred percent of the faculty have terminal degrees. However, several of the dissertation chairs are not Academically or Professionally qualified. Although there is value in having out of field doctorates on a dissertation committee, the business unit may benefit by considering having the dissertation committees chaired by Academically Qualified individuals in business specialties. Categories: ApproachVerified: This OFI was verified on site.Criterion 5.4Criterion 5.4.1 states that the business unit shall have at least one full-time academically and/or professionally qualified faculty member teaching in each academic program, major, or concentration at each location where the program is delivered. Although Lead Faculty have strong academic and professional qualifications, they are not full time professors. The business unit and its curriculum may be strengthened by adding full time faculty members to these roles. Categories: Approach, ImprovementsVerified: This OFI was verified on site.Criterion 5.5Although both full time and part time faculty are engaging in all nine functions expected of faculty and the business unit honors its stated load policies, a number of faculty have an extraordinary number of preps (e.g. Dr. Bouvin, Dr. Crossland, Dr. Dereshiwsky, etc.). Instruction quality may be strengthened through the development of a "maximum number of preps per year" policy.
