ACBSP 2021 Official Call for Nominations

The following notice is given as a call for nominations for candidates for the noted Officer, Director, Commissioner, and Accreditation Governance Board positions. Nominations are conducted with due regard for representation of geographic areas and characteristics of member institutions.

Officers and Board of Directors

Notice is hereby given for the following officer and director positions. All Officers and At-Large Directors must have previously served as a member of the Board of Directors, Board of Commissioners, Accreditation Governance Board, as chair of a standing committee, or as an officer of an ACBSP Regional Council.

Vice Chair

The Vice-Chair serves for a one-year term as an advisor to the Chair and Chair-Elect, and substitutes for the Chair-Elect in his or her absence or if he or she is unable to serve. Upon conclusion of the term of Vice Chair, the Vice Chair automatically assumes the office of Chair-Elect; after which, then shall serve as Chair. The Vice Chair also serves as a member of the Executive Committee and is expected to serve as a Co-Chair of ACBSP Conference 2023 in Chicago, IL, and Co-Chair of ACBSP Conference 2024 in Miami, FL. The Vice Chair for 2022-2023 shall be from a baccalaureate/graduate degree institution.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for the appropriate stewardship of ACBSP funds. The Treasurer presents a report at the Annual Business Meeting of ACBSP or at any time a report is requested. The Treasurer coordinates the preparation of the annual budget, arranges for a yearly audit of the financial records, and is responsible for an itemized account of all receipts, expenditures, and investments. The Treasurer is an ex-officio member of the Audit Committee. While not required, the Nominating Committee gives preference to individuals that teach accounting and/or CPAs. The Treasurer serves a three-year term and may be elected to a second consecutive three-year term. Lakshmy Sivaratnam, Kansas City Kansas Community College (KS), Region 5, is serving a partial term of office and is eligible for nomination for a first full term of office that would conclude in 2025.

At-Large Director — Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Institution

Board members are fiduciaries who guide the organization towards a sustainable future by adopting sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies to advance our mission. Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree At-Large Directors are elected to serve three-year terms and may be re-nominated to serve a second term of office. Tilokie Depoo, Albizu University – Miami Campus (Florida, USA), Region 3, is serving a second full term of office and is not eligible for re-nomination. This position is for a three-year term of office that would conclude in 2025.

At-Large Director — Associate Degree Institution

Associate Degree At-Large Directors are elected to serve three-year terms and may be re-nominated to serve a second term of office. Gary Mrozinski, Luzerne County Community College (Pennsylvania, USA), Region 2, is concluding a full three-year term and is eligible for re-nomination for a second full term of office that would conclude in 2025.

Board of Commissioners — Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Program

Notice is hereby given for four vacancies on the Board of Commissioners of the Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Commission. Commissioners must be affiliated with an accredited Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree institution. All Commissioners serve a three-year term and may be elected to serve a second consecutive term of office. Commissioners are expected to attend meetings each November, April, and June, and review materials in advance of each meeting. All nominees must confirm the endorsement and support of their institution for the time and expense necessary to fulfill the duties as a Commissioner.

The following Commissioner is concluding two full terms of office and is not eligible for re-nomination:

  • Ray Eldridge, Lipscomb University (Tennessee, USA), Region 3

The following Commissioners have served full terms that are concluding and are eligible for re-nomination for a second full term of office that would conclude in 2025:

  • Jennifer Varney, Southern New Hampshire University (New Hampshire, USA), Region 1
  • Alvarro Carrizosa, Universidad del Rosario (Colombia), Region 9

The following Commissioner has served a partial term that is concluding and is eligible for nomination for a full term of office that would conclude in 2025:

  • Marie Gould Harper, American Public University System, Region 2

Board of Commissioners — Associate Degree Program

Notice is hereby given for two vacancies on the Board of Commissioners of the Associate Degree Commission. Commissioners must be affiliated with an accredited Associate Degree institution. All Commissioners serve a three-year term and may be elected for a second consecutive term of office. Commissioners are expected to attend meetings each November, April, and June, and review materials in advance of each meeting. All nominees must have the endorsement and support of their institution for the time and expense necessary to fulfill the duties as a Commissioner.

The following Commissioner has served two full consecutive terms and is not eligible for re-nomination:

  • Amy Ross, Walters State Community College (Tennessee, USA), Region 3

The following Commissioner has served one full term that is concluding and is eligible for re-nomination for a second full term of office that would conclude in 2025:

  • Jeff Strom, Virginia Western Community College (Virginia, USA), Region 2

Accreditation Governance Board

Notice is hereby given for one vacancy on the Accreditation Governance Board (AGB). All AGB members must be from an accredited institution. The AGB shall assist both Boards of Commissioners in establishing, documenting and periodically reviewing broad accreditation policies and procedures essential to accomplishing the objectives and appropriate functioning of the two Commissions.

The following Commissioner has served one full term that is concluding and is eligible for re-nomination for a second full term of office that would conclude in 2025:

  • R. Nandagopal, Shree Saraswathi Thigaraja College (India), Region 10

Nominating Process

Nominations for all positions for the Board of Directors, Boards of Commissioners, and Accreditation Governance Board should be submitted to the ACBSP President/CEO, who is required to forward them to the respective Nominating Committees. Self-nominations are permitted and may be supported by letters of recommendation. All nominations should be sent directly to Jeffrey Alderman at jalderman@acbsp.org or by mail to 11520 West 119th Street, Overland Park, KS 66213, USA. All nominations must be received by Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

The Nominating Committees may identify candidates in addition to any nominations received. By January 31, 2022, the Nominating Committees shall each submit a slate of candidates to the President/CEO who will then forward the respective slates to all Champions and Co-Champions by March 1, 2022, providing an opportunity for write-in nominations.

Write-in nominations of any individual receiving signatures from five percent (5%) of the total membership eligible to vote in each Region shall allow for the petitioner to appear on the ballot. Any write-in nominations must be submitted by May 1, 2022. The President/CEO will validate the names of any write-in petition and will only disclose the names of members signing the petition upon written request.

The report of the Nominating Committees will be read at the respective annual business meetings of the ACBSP Board of Directors and Board of Commissioners during ACBSP Conference 2022 scheduled to be held in Washington, DC, with Board members being elected by a majority vote of official representatives present, whether in-person or virtual, at date(s) and time(s) to be announced.
